VNC
With VNC, the screen content of a remote computer or panel can be integrated into the AnyViz interface as if you were sitting right in front of it. The Remote Framebuffer Protocol (better known as VNC) also allows the transmission of keyboard inputs and mouse movements, so that remote control is also possible.
Set up VNC
Remote VNC access requires a Universal Cloud Adapter. Open the configuration interface and click on the icon next to VNC pass through and configure the connection as follows.
| Host | Specify IP address or hostname of the VNC server. |
| Port | Enter the port number if it differs from the default port 5900. |
| Password | Enter the password if the VNC server is password protected. |
| Read only | Check this box if you want to prevent remote control (mouse and keyboard). |
Integrate VNC
Each VNC connection configured in the Cloud Adapter appears as an symbol in the object tree and must be created - just like any other tag. Then drag the VNC tag into a view.
Data volume and speed
The settings of the VNC vizual affect how much data is transferred. On slow connections (e.g. mobile networks) in particular, they can speed up the display of the screen.
| Reduce color depth | The image is transferred with only 256 colors (8 bit). This significantly reduces the data volume and speeds up the display. This setting is recommended if color accuracy is not important, e.g. for operator panels with simple graphics. |
| Quality | Available under Advanced settings. Possible values: 0 (lowest quality) to 9 (highest quality). A low value reduces the data volume but makes image areas look coarser (compression artifacts). If the field is left empty, the default of the VNC server applies. |
| Compression | Available under Advanced settings. Possible values: 1 (lowest compression) to 10 (strongest compression). A higher value reduces the data volume but increases the processing load on the VNC server. On low-powered panels this can slow down operation. If the field is left empty, the default of the VNC server applies. |
Note: The Quality and Compression settings only take effect if the VNC server supports the Tight encoding (e.g. TightVNC, UltraVNC, TigerVNC or TurboVNC). If the server does not support it, the values are ignored without an error message. Reduce color depth, on the other hand, works regardless of the server.
If several users access the same VNC tag at the same time, they share one connection to the VNC server.
